Because leaving is so costly to you, you stay: in the house, the arrangement, the town, occasionally past the point where any of it is working. The decision is never actually made; it simply keeps not being revisited. Put a date in the diary once every few years to ask the question deliberately, when nothing is wrong.
Change one thing indoors while everything is calm
Rearrange a room, replace something that still works, alter a routine you like, in a period when nothing is forcing it. Voluntary domestic change keeps your capacity for it alive, and that capacity is what you will need when a move or a loss arrives without your consent. Practising in good conditions is considerably cheaper.
The one who keeps the physical world going
In your household the meals happen, the repairs get done and the traditions continue because you are quietly running all of it. Families flourish on this and rarely name it. Hand over one recurring responsibility permanently rather than temporarily, and let it be done differently, since the alternative is discovering in twenty years that nobody else ever learned how.

A disrupted household costs you more physically than a hard week at work does. Spend money and effort on the bedroom before anything else, since almost everything else here runs downstream of whether you have slept properly.

You carry a great deal forward from the household you came from: recipes, habits, standards, ways of handling money, some chosen and most simply continued. The practice is going through them once, deliberately, and deciding what stays.
