Ask them what they imagine a year from now, and treat a hesitant answer as information rather than as a problem to solve.
The tiredness lands indoors
You hold your pace all day and arrive back with nothing left for the people who live there, which reads to them as mood rather than fatigue. The pattern repeats until somebody names it out loud. Take twenty minutes on the way home that belong to nobody, and the evening stops paying for the afternoon.
