You can point to the tally you keep on yourself
There is one, and it runs continuously: what you got wrong today, what you should have done differently, what remains outstanding. Virgo holding the tail in the House of the Unseen puts exactness inside the room where nothing is observable, so the assessment has no external check at all.
That is the tension of the page. Your standards are genuinely useful in the visible world and, applied privately with nobody to correct them, they run without any limit or appeal.
The private audit never closes
The review runs at night, in idle moments and during otherwise good days: the exchange reconsidered, the mistake located, the improvement identified. It is thorough and it never produces a verdict of acceptable. That is not because you are harsh by temperament. It is because a standard with no auditor and no sign-off cannot conclude.
What the exactness is actually worth
You are unusually honest with yourself, which almost nobody manages, and it means your self-assessments are accurate in a way that most people's flattering ones are not. That accuracy is a genuine asset and it has kept you from a good deal of self-deception. It is worth separating from the punishment attached to it.
Nobody knows the measure is running
From outside you appear capable and reasonably content, and none of the people close to you has the faintest idea that a continuous evaluation is under way. They cannot moderate something they cannot see any evidence of. Their reassurance therefore lands at the wrong target entirely, and you conclude, quite reasonably, that they have not understood the question.
Ask somebody whether it is actually true
Pisces stands across from it, where the body and the timetable are, and the development is acceptance with no standard applied to it. Put one of the private verdicts to somebody out loud and ask whether it is accurate. Not for reassurance — for a second reading. An audit with no external check is not an audit.
Vigilance with no off switch
The continuous internal review is metabolically expensive and completely invisible, which is why your tiredness rarely matches your activity and why ordinary rest does not resolve it. Nothing is being physically over-exerted anywhere. Practise ten minutes a day of deliberately unassessed time, doing nothing that could be scored. The absence of evaluation is the input your system has never had.
Measured against something private
The standard you work to was assembled early, in private, and has never once been compared with anything that anybody else considers reasonable. It is not somebody's expectation of you; it is a construction of your own. Write it out explicitly, in sentences, for the first time. A standard on paper is far easier to argue with than one merely felt.
They meet the corrected draft
A partner encounters a version of you that has already been reviewed and found acceptable enough to present, which is why closeness stalls at a certain depth however many years it runs. The withholding is invisible to you as well as to them. Say one thing that has not been checked first and leave it uncorrected.
Never good enough to submit
You have produced a great deal that met any reasonable standard and failed to meet your own, so it went unmentioned, unpublished or unclaimed by anybody. That judgement was made privately and has never been tested against a second opinion. Show one piece you consider inadequate to somebody competent. Their assessment is the data this has always lacked.
Where the measure was installed
The standard running in your head arrived from your household as a complete object with no instructions attached, and it has kept operating long after everybody who fitted it stopped applying anything of the kind to themselves. Pick one clause of it and work out whose voice is saying it. Attribution takes most of the force out.
