Count the things you are responsible for right now
The list is long and most of it was never formally assigned. Capricorn at the tail in the House of Career is the sign of duty sitting in the room of duty, which is why responsibility arrived complete and has never once required any development.
The doubling explains why carrying things has never felt like a choice. It is the resting state. Your capacity for it is genuinely exceptional, and there is no version of you on record that is not currently accountable for something.
The groove is taking the weight
Presented with anything unowned, your hands are already on it before any assessment of whether it should be yours. It is always defensible, it is always genuinely needed, and it is never once discussed with anybody. Across a career this produces a role that nobody designed and that nobody except you could now describe accurately, which is also why nobody can relieve you of any part of it.
What the reliability has produced
You have built things that outlast the attention of the people who commissioned them: the system that still runs, the standard that held, the team that functions because you assembled it properly. Very little of that is attributed to you and all of it is genuinely yours. Durable work is the rarest professional output there is.
The role took the place of everything else
The cost is that your public position has absorbed the space where other things would have gone: the private life, the unstructured hours, the version of you that is not accountable to anybody. Nothing was sacrificed dramatically. It was simply never scheduled, and the schedule has been full since you were young.
Leave one period genuinely unaccountable
Cancer stands across from it, in the arena of home, where the growth is being looked after rather than being responsible. Take a defined stretch — a fortnight, a month — in which you are answerable to nobody for anything. Do not make it productive or justify it afterwards. Being unaccountable is the specific unpractised condition.
Scope instead of altitude
Every piece of good work has brought you more to carry rather than a different position, because organisations respond to demand and you have never made one. Absorption is read as capacity. Ask, in writing, for a specific role with a name and a date. Nothing else in this pattern moves without being asked.
Present as the provider
Your household knows you as the person responsible for it, and that responsibility has taken up all the room where the other kind of presence would otherwise have been. They are not ungrateful about any of it; they have simply never met you off duty in their lives. Spend one weekend at home contributing nothing whatever except company. It will feel like negligence for about a day.
Senior at every age
You have been treated as the responsible one since you were considerably too young for it, and the role has followed you into every group you have joined since. Nobody thinks to invite the responsible one to anything undignified, so the invitations stopped arriving decades ago. Do something visibly frivolous in front of people whose respect you value. The category loosens faster than any amount of explaining.
The role has no off position
Because your public position never stops running, there is no location or hour in which you are not partly at work, which is why holidays restore less than they should and evenings restore almost nothing. The load is continuous rather than heavy. Create one fixed daily hour in which you are unreachable by anybody professionally. An edge is what your system is missing, not rest.
Standing accumulated, terms unchanged
Your reputation has grown steadily across the years and the arrangement you work under has been renegotiated approximately never, because raising it would feel like trading on goodwill you would rather keep. Employers do not volunteer revisions. Take the accumulated record into one conversation and ask for it to be reflected. The evidence is overwhelming and it has never once been presented.
