Steady, capable and slightly hard to place
People who have worked with you would say you are steady, capable and slightly hard to place. With the North Node in Scorpio in the 10th house, the public role is supposed to involve real power and real exposure. You need one professional position where something is genuinely at stake.
A career kept safe is a career nobody can quite describe. The positions that make a reputation are the ones where you could have been badly wrong in public.
Power is not the same as ambition
You associate seeking authority with a certain kind of person and have declined it on those grounds. The two are separable. What this arena asks for is a willingness to hold consequence — to be the one whose decision it was — which is a burden rather than a prize and is usually going spare.
Take the role nobody wants
Start with the difficult assignment: the failing project, the team in trouble, the piece of work everybody has quietly avoided. Those are where authority is actually available, because nobody is competing for them. Deliver one and let it be known that you did. It is the fastest route to standing in any organisation.
A reputation with weight behind it
What accumulates is a name attached to difficulty handled: people know what you did when it was going badly, which is the only reputation that survives a change of employer. Pleasant competence is forgotten within about a year of your leaving the building. Having carried something heavy in public, and been seen to, is remembered for the rest of a working lifetime.
Going home when it gets exposed
The retreat is domestic and entirely defensible: the public thing gets difficult and suddenly the private life needs you, the role is not worth the stress, the safe arrangement looks wise. Notice that the timing follows exposure rather than circumstance. Stay in one uncomfortable public position for a full year before judging it.
Take responsibility for an outcome
Your professional position has been carefully constructed so that nothing lands entirely on you: shared decisions, advisory roles, work that is excellent and unaccountable. Take on one thing this year where the result is yours either way, in public. Authority gets granted to whoever will carry the consequence, and it has been quietly available to you for years.
Standing that came from something difficult
The long arc here runs through visible difficulty rather than steady accumulation: the crisis you handled, the thing you turned round, the position you held when it was unpopular. None of that can be planned for. What can be planned is being in a role where such a thing is possible when it arrives.
Your family will worry about the exposure
The people who raised you will read a visible, consequential role as a risk rather than as an achievement, because safety was the value being taught. Their concern is genuine and it is not information about the decision. Tell them what you are doing without asking for approval, and do not argue the case.
Some people will not like you in this role
Holding real authority produces opposition, and you have historically arranged your working life to avoid that entirely. It is not evidence of doing it wrong. Accept that one group will be genuinely unhappy with a decision you make this year, and stop trying to convert them. Universal approval and real power are incompatible.
Carrying consequence has a physical cost
Public responsibility is heavier than the work inside it: the decision you cannot un-make, the people affected, the exposure that follows you home. That load is real and it needs deliberate discharge — hard exercise, one person who hears the unvarnished version, protected time nothing can move. Build the discharge before you take the role.
