Nothing in your head has ever gone quiet
Neptune in Gemini in the 12th house means your inner life is verbal and it does not pause: a commentary that runs during conversations, through your working hours, and most audibly at the times of night when everybody else has stopped.
Anyone born close to you in time was handed the same word-tinted longing; that half is common property. The difference is which door it came through, and yours opens onto the 12th house, so it operates under the surface rather than in your actual speech.
Silence, imagined as the destination
What you want from rest is the absence of the commentary, and you have probably tried several methods aimed at producing it, none of which held. The commentary is not going to stop. What is available is changing what it is doing: occupied rather than silenced, given something to work on that is not you.
What the narration actually costs
Composing replies, rehearsing conversations, running the analysis of things already finished — none of it appears as effort and all of it draws on the same supply. You end days tired with nothing physical to account for it. Write the loudest of it down before bed. Externalising is what stops a loop; deciding to stop has never worked once.
More input accepted in place of rest
When you are depleted you reach for reading, listening or watching, because an empty room lets the commentary get louder. So the recovery never happens and the tiredness compounds. The uncomfortable first twenty minutes of an unoccupied hour is the entire obstacle. It passes, and what is on the other side of it is the rest you have been substituting for.
Find something genuinely wordless
Swimming, walking a route you know by heart, working with your hands, music without lyrics — the requirement is that language cannot follow. That is the only condition under which your system actually stands down. Do it several times a week rather than occasionally, and treat it as maintenance rather than as recreation.
Sleep begins late and stays shallow
Your night is where the commentary is loudest, so falling asleep is slow and what follows is thin rather than restorative, and no amount of tiredness during the day changes it. What works is offloading the sentences somewhere physical before bed — spoken into a recording, written down badly, told to somebody — and then occupying your hands with something that has no language attached.
A second life conducted entirely in your head
A substantial part of your existence takes place internally: conversations, alternative versions, arguments won, whole relationships imagined in detail. It is a real place and it is not shared with anybody. Put some of it into a form — writing, recording, telling somebody — because an inner life with no outlet eventually starts competing with the outer one.
You leave a gathering and replay it for two days
After any social occasion the review begins: what you said, how it landed, the thing you should have phrased differently. The review is not accurate and it is very convincing. Ask one person what they actually thought, once, and compare it with your version. The gap is usually large enough to weaken the whole habit.
The conversation you had with them was in your head
You work out what is wrong between you, rehearse the discussion, arrive at a resolution and then behave as though it had happened, and your partner has no idea any of it occurred. It is a specific and entirely avoidable form of loneliness. Say the short version out loud. Ten seconds of the actual conversation outperforms an hour of the rehearsed one.
You solve it internally and never write it down
A great deal of your professional thinking happens invisibly and reaches conclusions nobody else sees the working for, so your contribution registers as opinion rather than analysis. Write the reasoning out, briefly, and circulate it. The thinking is already done; the only missing step is making it exist somewhere other than in your head.
