The heat goes into getting the enjoyable thing right
Everything exacting in you gets spent on what is supposed to be fun. Mars in Virgo in the 5th house sends precision into romance, play and making things, so your recreation acquires technique, standards and a practice schedule within about a month of starting.
The sign is why it becomes a craft and the house is why the material was meant to be light. That is how you end up genuinely skilled at things other people dabble in, and why you have occasionally worked the pleasure out of something by taking it seriously.
The hobby that became a discipline
You pick something up for enjoyment and within a season there is a method, a log and a standard you are not currently meeting. The skill that results is real and the pleasure can quietly leave the building. Keep one activity permanently unpractised, where being mediocre is the whole arrangement, because otherwise every restful thing in your life acquires a scoreboard within a year of starting it.
Courtship conducted through usefulness
Your interest shows as attention to detail on somebody's behalf: the thing remembered, the problem solved, the arrangement made because it would make their week easier. It is genuinely romantic and it is entirely deniable, which is why people miss it. Add one unambiguous sentence. The gestures alone have never once been legible.
Revised until the life went out of it
Your creative work improves with each pass and there is a point past which it improves technically and loses whatever made it worth making. You will not feel that point arrive. Set a fixed number of revisions in advance and keep a copy of the earlier version. Occasionally the earlier one was better and you would otherwise never know.
Children get the version that teaches
With children you are patient, practical and instinctively instructive: the proper way to hold it, the reason it works, the correction offered kindly. That is valuable and it is on all the time. Let some play have no learning in it at all. Being bad at something together is an experience they cannot get from anybody else in the family.
Nerves read as coolness
In the early stage of something you become more careful rather than more open, and the precision that serves you everywhere else makes you appear uninterested at exactly the wrong moment. Say the awkward thing without preparing it. Your instinct is to get the sentence right first, and there is no version of this that improves with drafting.
Creative work with a specification
You produce excellent work against a brief and stall against a blank page, which means the commissions, the client with requirements and the format with constraints all get better output from you than freedom does. Seek those deliberately rather than treating constraint as a compromise. It is the condition your ability actually runs on.
The parent who checks the homework
You attend to a child's practical development with real diligence, and the attention is mostly directed at what could be better. A child hears that as a running assessment however warmly it is meant. Notice something they did well, out loud and specifically, at a moment when nothing needed improving. It has to be unattached to a correction to register.
Form is what keeps you turning up
Any physical activity with a technique to refine will hold you for years, and anything purely effortful is gone inside a month regardless of how good it is for you. Choose on that basis alone: the stroke to correct, the lift with a position to fix, the sport that has coaching in it. Improvement is the mechanism doing the work, and the physical benefit arrives as a side effect you were not aiming at.
Permission to be bad at something enjoyable
Every pleasure you have kept has had to justify itself by improving. There is a whole category of experience available only to people who are content to stay incompetent at something, and you have essentially never visited it. Take up one thing this year with no intention of getting better at it, and notice how quickly the urge to find a method arrives. Refusing that urge is the entire exercise.
