The whole career happens on a lit stage
Somebody says your name in a room you are not in, and that is the actual goal. Mars in Leo in the 10th house aims your drive at standing rather than at control, so what you want from work is to be known for something rather than to be in charge of it.
The sign is why the target is recognition and the house is why it is public. That combination makes you unusually willing to take the exposed job, unusually good at it, and unusually badly served by any arrangement in which the credit lands somewhere other than on you.
Given a team, you lead it whether or not you were asked
Authority arrives to you informally long before it arrives formally, because people respond to somebody who will take responsibility in public. That is a real capability. Convert it to a title deliberately rather than waiting: the informal version is unpaid, unprotected, and it disappears the moment somebody with the actual role objects to it.
Credit is not vanity, it is the mechanism
Your next opportunity comes from somebody who could see who did the last thing, which makes attribution a professional necessity rather than an indulgence. Ask for it explicitly, in writing, at the point where the work is being scoped rather than after it has landed. The reluctance to appear grasping has cost you more advancement over the years than any actual failure of work ever has, and it is the easiest of all your habits to change.
Sharing the light multiplies it
Leaders who visibly promote their people get handed larger things to lead, and this is the one discipline that changes your trajectory most. Name somebody else's contribution in a room where it matters, monthly. It costs you nothing you actually have, and it converts a reputation for talent into a reputation for judgement.
The prestigious version of the wrong job
Your risk is choosing a direction for how it sounds rather than for what the days consist of, and then holding it for years because stepping back would be visible. Describe an ordinary Tuesday in the role before accepting it. If the description is dull and the title is excellent, you have found the specific trap this placement sets.
Take the exposed brief, take the credit, in that order
The assignments that carry risk are the ones your temperament handles best and they are also the ones where attribution is most contested afterwards. Establish before you start who is named on the outcome. Doing it at the beginning is a scoping conversation; doing it at the end is a grievance, and you will lose that one.
Being known and being useful are not the same target
Both matter to you and only one of them is measured by anybody. There is a version of your working life that accumulates recognition and produces nothing you would defend, and it is entirely achievable with your abilities. Pick one thing per decade that you would be proud of even if it went unnoticed, and finish it.
The lifestyle that the role appears to require
Standing carries costs: the address, the clothes, the entertaining, the school. They arrive gradually and each one is individually defensible. Total them once a year against what the role actually pays. Some of the expenditure is genuinely load-bearing and some of it is being paid to an audience that stopped watching some time ago.
Everyone knows you and few people know you
Professional visibility produces a great many warm acquaintances and a shortage of people who have seen you uncertain. That distribution is a consequence of doing this well rather than a failure. Keep two people from before any of it, and tell them the parts that are not going well. There is nowhere else those can go.
The household that revolves around a public role
Your work has a schedule, a visibility and a set of obligations that everybody at home has adapted to, and the adaptation was never negotiated because it happened one event at a time. Put the question on the table explicitly. What you find out is worth knowing, and it is not going to be volunteered.
