A belief has to survive contact with the ordinary
A Taurus Jupiter working out of the 9th house hands you convictions that must work on a Wednesday or they do not count. Ideas that cannot be practised leave you cold. What this needs is one subject taken all the way down rather than six taken partway.
There is no appetite in you for theory that stays theory. Whatever you have come to believe about how to live got there by being tried, usually over years, and this is why your views carry weight with people who dislike being preached at.
You return rather than collect
Travel for you means the same place repeatedly until it stops being foreign: the same coast, the same city, eventually the same table. Others find that unadventurous and it produces a depth of knowledge no itinerary can. Keep going back, and learn enough of the language to be dull in it, since that is where the real belonging starts.
Learning a subject all the way down
You study slowly and you do not stop, and after fifteen years you know one field the way its practitioners know it rather than the way its readers do. Formal qualifications have rarely kept pace with that. Put the knowledge somewhere public once, in whatever form suits you, because at this depth it is worth more to other people than you assume.
Convictions that are difficult to move
Once something has been tested and held, you will not readily reopen it, and you can carry a position for decades without examining the ground under it. Others stop arguing long before you have been persuaded. Choose one settled belief a year and go and look at the evidence again, in the company of somebody who thinks you are wrong.
Teaching by letting people watch
Your instruction happens through demonstration and repetition rather than through explanation: people learn from you by being nearby while you work, over a long time. It suits apprenticeship and it suits almost nothing else. Take one person on properly rather than addressing a room, and expect the results to appear in about three years.
Slow expertise, eventually unmatched
Fields where mastery takes fifteen years suit you, and you will still be improving at a point where quicker colleagues have plateaued. The difficulty is the middle stretch, when you are neither new nor recognised and the money reflects it. Stay through it deliberately, because in this position almost everything of value arrives on the far side of that flat decade.
Friendships that survived a border
You keep a small number of people in other countries and you keep them for life, generally through infrequent contact and long visits rather than steady correspondence. Distance does not weaken these ties in the way it weakens most. Go and stay for a fortnight rather than sending anything, since these particular friendships run on presence.
The one who taught you something and stayed
Attraction here often starts with learning: a teacher, a colleague from another country, somebody who already knew a subject you wanted for yourself. Admiration opens it and it is not what keeps it open. Ask early whether they enjoy a slow weekend, because respect on its own has never carried a decade in this position.
You kept the customs going
Whatever your family does at particular times of year, you are the one who has continued doing it, often after the people who started it had stopped. That continuity means more to the younger ones than anybody has told you. Write down how one of the customs is actually done, since it currently exists only in your hands.
The body needs the same journey twice
Travel disrupts you more than it disrupts others: the food, the beds, the change of rhythm all register, and you take several days to arrive properly. Familiar destinations solve most of this without any loss of enjoyment. Book the extra two days at the start rather than filling them, and the whole trip works better.
