Home is where you stop being available
Growth reaches you Pisces-flavoured and it lands in the 4th house, which means home is not a stage but a retreat: the place where nothing is required and nobody has to be attended to. A household with constant traffic in it exhausts you. What this needs is somewhere in it that is genuinely closed.
The domestic side of your life carries more weight than you would probably admit. Your capacity for everything else depends on it, and the periods when the base was disordered are the periods when nothing outside it worked either.
An atmosphere absorbed since childhood
You picked up the emotional weather of the household you grew up in before you could name any of it, and you are still able to read a room in the same way. That skill was learned young and at some cost. Notice when you are monitoring a house that is entirely calm, since the reflex does not check whether it is needed.
The house takes people in
Your address has sheltered friends, relatives and people between arrangements, generally for longer than anybody planned. You rarely refuse and you rarely regret it either. Two of them are still there considerably beyond what anybody imagined. Say the length at the outset, since afterwards there is no moment at which the question can be raised without it becoming an eviction.
A base with soft edges
Where your home ends and everybody else's needs begin has never been clearly marked: the hours, the space, who can arrive unannounced. That openness is genuinely generous. People arrive without arranging it and nobody has ever been told not to. Draw one line and hold it, since the absence of any line is what has made your own house somewhere you cannot fully rest.
The retreat you need and rarely take
You require substantial periods of being unavailable at home and you have arranged your life so that they almost never happen. Nothing else restores you in the same way. Everything else in the diary has a claim on it and wins. Put it in the diary before you need it, since the version taken in an emergency arrives too late to prevent anything.
They arrive and you never mind
People turn up at your house without arranging it, stay longer than intended and leave feeling better than they came. You genuinely enjoy that and you also never get the evening back. Keep two evenings a week for whoever actually lives there, since the open door is your arrangement and the household has been living inside it.
The mood was never explained to you
Something was going on in that household that nobody described, and you learned to read it rather than to ask about it. The reading was accurate and the asking never once happened. Ask a direct question now, since the facts are generally available and the guessing has been continuing for several decades.
You need somewhere nobody knows about
There is generally a place you retreat to that is neither your home nor anybody else's business: a route, a room, a stretch of water. It is not escapism and it does considerably more for you than ordinary rest does. Keep it and do not describe it to anybody, since the value here is precisely that it is unaccounted for.
The house was never a financial decision
Where you live was chosen on feeling: the light, the atmosphere, the sense of the place, with the arithmetic arriving afterwards. You would do the same again. Get one person to check the numbers before the next move, since your instinct about the place is generally right and it does not extend to the terms.
You need to be able to be quiet with them
What makes a household work for you is the ability to be silent in company without anything being wrong: no performance, no explanation, no atmosphere to manage. That is the actual test rather than compatibility of interests. Spend a full unstructured weekend together before deciding anything, since it is the only condition that reveals it.
