You express affection through logistics: the errand run, the problem solved, the thing fixed while they were still describing it. Partners raised on words can miss the message entirely. Do the task and then say the sentence, briefly. Your instinct is that doing it should be enough, and it would be, if everybody spoke the same language you do.
Your closest friends came from work
Most of your real friendships were forged next to somebody during a bad week, and they last long past the job that made them.
