Practicalities left until they are urgent

You do not want to be financially entangled

There is a short list of things you would not trade for money under any circumstances, and it has cost you real opportunities without your ever regretting it. A boundary you have articulated can be defended calmly, rather than by declining an offer and being unable to explain quite why.
They do not understand what you do
Your relatives have an approximate and probably outdated idea of how you earn a living, and their occasional concern is genuine rather than critical. Explain it once, simply, without defending it. The anxiety usually comes from not being able to picture the arrangement rather than from disapproving of it.
Money is not a subject you enjoy
Discussions about earnings, property and comparison bore and mildly irritate you, and you exit them quickly. That is a defensible preference and it means friends have no idea whether you are struggling. Say something to one person when a period is genuinely difficult, since the silence has cost you help that was readily available.
No existing title describes it
What you actually do sits between recognised roles, which is why job titles fit you badly and why explaining your work takes three sentences rather than one. Write the three sentences properly and then use them consistently. An arrangement that cannot be named is one nobody can recommend you for, and recommendation is how nearly all of your work has ever arrived.
