Sun in Cancer in the 7th House (House of Partnership)

Cancer says how Sun shows up; the 7th House says it happens in partnership, one-to-one bonds. Put the two together and you have the placement as it sits on a chart.

A partner becomes family within about a year

Cancer water in the 7th house means the person beside you stops being a separate party very quickly. You fold them into your sense of home, you worry about them, and their bad week becomes your bad week. You need a relationship you are allowed to be that involved in.

With the right person this is one of the warmest ways to be loved. With the wrong one it means you are fully committed to somebody who has not yet decided, which is the specific way this placement gets hurt.

You look after them, sometimes before they ask

Your instinct in a partnership is protective: the meal ready, the difficult phone call handled, the problem you noticed before it was mentioned. Most people receive this gratefully for years. What it can quietly do is train them out of managing their own life, and then the resentment arrives on both sides at once. Ask before you fix, most of the time.

Being needed is not the same as being wanted

There is a version of this where you secure your position by being indispensable, and it feels like love from the inside. The test is what happens when they are fine and need nothing. If that makes you uneasy rather than pleased, the arrangement has drifted. Practise being with somebody on a day when there is nothing at all to do for them.

The current that turns into parent and child

Where one person cares and the other is cared for, the roles harden faster than either intended, and in this placement you will usually be in the first chair. It is comfortable, it is unequal, and it eventually removes the desire from the room. Notice who makes the appointments, holds the worry and knows the details. If it is all you, redistribute one item deliberately.

Stay somebody inside the pair

The work here is keeping a life that is yours alone: friends who are not shared, an interest they have no part in, a weekend now and then. It sounds like distance and it functions as ballast, because a person with their own ground is far harder to lose. Choose one thing this year that belongs to you and put it in the calendar.

Loyal early, and slow to leave

You commit sooner than most and you stay long past the point at which others would go, because leaving feels like abandoning someone rather than ending something. Give yourself a way to check without deciding: ask once a year whether you would choose this again today. Answering honestly is not disloyalty, and it is the only reliable audit you will get.

Two families, and you manage both

You are likely to have absorbed your partner's relatives as thoroughly as your own, and to have become the person who remembers everybody's birthdays across both. That is generous and it is a lot of unpaid administration. Hand back one duty a year, explicitly and out loud, rather than waiting for somebody to notice that you have been doing it. Nobody is going to notice; the whole point of that work is that it looks like nothing.

You work best with one person you trust

Professionally you flourish in a close working pair: a business partner, a manager who backs you, a long-standing client relationship. Anonymous large organisations give you nobody to be loyal to. Where you can, build the job around one strong working bond and let that be the thing that keeps you in the role.

You take on their friends as your own

Whoever you are close to, their circle becomes yours, which is why a break-up costs you a whole social world rather than one person. Keep two or three friendships that predate the relationship and belong entirely to you. Maintaining them takes almost no effort, and their value only becomes obvious on the one occasion you need somewhere to go that is not connected to the person you have just lost.

Learning to be alone without it meaning something

The long lesson is that time by yourself is not evidence of failure, which is difficult when your instinct reads solitude as being left. Build a small deliberate practice of it: one evening a week alone that you plan and look forward to. That single habit changes how you choose partners, because it removes the urgency.
