The Rising Sign is not a body in the sky but a direction: whichever sign was lifting over the eastern horizon at your exact birth moment. It runs the outermost layer of you — the walk, the greeting, the default expression your face falls into among strangers.
It gets called a mask, which is a little unfair. A door is a better word: genuinely part of the house, just not the whole interior. Some people's door matches their rooms; others are surprising to enter — reserved outside, riotous within, or the reverse. Neither arrangement is dishonest. Doors and living rooms simply have different jobs.
It also colors the body's presentation: posture, pace, the general air people describe you with after one meeting. When two people share a Sun sign but read completely differently in person, their Rising Signs are usually the explanation.
A sign every two hours, so minutes matter
The Rising Sign changes roughly every two hours as the sky wheels, which makes it the most birth-time-hungry line of the whole chart. Being off by half an hour can shift it; not knowing the time at all means it can only be an estimate, and this site marks it as reference-only in that case.
It is computed from time plus birthplace — the same minute in a different city can rise a different sign. Once your chart is cast, the entry labeled Rising Sign or ASC carries it; if you have seen the word Ascendant elsewhere, that is the same point wearing its formal name.

Each sign rises differently. Fire rising walks in warm and fast and fills the doorway; earth rising arrives composed, unhurried, giving off reliability before saying a word; air rising opens with talk and makes the introductions feel easy; water rising enters quietly and reads the room before the room reads it.

It does not live in a house — it builds them
Here is the special rule: the Rising Sign never falls in a house, because it is the peg the houses hang from. The 1st House begins exactly at the rising degree, and the other eleven are measured around from there. Move the rising point and every room in the chart moves with it.
So there is no such page as Rising Sign in the 5th House, and you have not misread your chart when you cannot find one.
