Pleasant, untroubled, and costing nothing
From outside your creative life and your romances look pleasant and untroubled. From inside, very little of either has cost you anything. With the North Node in Scorpio in the 5th house, delight is supposed to have stakes in it. You need one pleasure you could genuinely lose.
Enjoyment without exposure is pleasant and it does not go anywhere. What is missing is the version where wanting something puts you at risk of not getting it.
Wanting it that much feels dangerous
There is a level of desire you keep below, because above it the possibility of disappointment becomes real. So your appetites stay moderate and your enjoyments stay safe. Let yourself want one thing at full strength this year and then say so out loud to somebody. The exposure is the entire content of the exercise, and the wanting is only the occasion for it.
Keeping it enjoyable and unimportant
The retreat is moderation: the creative project stays a hobby, the attraction stays a flirtation, the interest stays casual, and nothing can go wrong. Every individual step down in stakes is reasonable, and the aggregate is a life in which nothing was ever risked. Raise the stakes on one thing this year and let it genuinely matter to you.
Make something that could fail publicly
Start with a creative act that has a real chance of not working: the piece shown to somebody whose opinion counts, the audition, the thing entered rather than kept. Then let yourself care about the outcome rather than pre-emptively not minding. Investment is the practice; not minding is the habit being retired.
Lovers and children who can take the real you
You offer a comfortable, undemanding version to the people closest in this arena, and it produces affection without much heat. Give one of them the intense version — the real want, the real attention, the real reaction. What comes back is usually a relief on both sides, and it takes about one evening.
A life with some appetite in it
The long question here is what you have actually wanted badly, and the honest answer may be very little. Moderation has kept things comfortable and it also produces a strangely flavourless account of a decade. Name one thing you want without qualifying it. The naming is difficult and the pursuing turns out to be easier.
Take the work that could go wrong
Professionally you have chosen safe, pleasant, well-defined projects and delivered them reliably. Take one that might actually fail: the ambitious brief, the client above your level, the piece with your reputation attached to it. The risk is the point, and the version of your ability that only appears under stakes has never once been used.
Friendships that survive being told the truth
Your circle is easy company and largely untested: nobody has said anything difficult to anybody in years. Say one honest thing to a friend this season, kindly and directly. Some friendships will turn out to be arrangements and some will deepen considerably. You have no way of telling which is which until you do it.
Children can handle real feeling
Around children you keep everything light and pleasant, on the theory that they need protecting from anything intense. They mostly need the opposite: adults who are visibly real, who say when something matters, who are properly delighted and properly serious. Let one exchange be genuine rather than managed and watch how they respond.
Comfort can quietly become avoidance
Physical ease is your default setting — the comfortable option, the pleasant choice, nothing strenuous — and over time it produces a body that has not been asked to do anything. Introduce something genuinely demanding once a week. The point is not fitness; it is finding out what happens when the comfortable option is declined.
