In the arena of ideas the scoring runs the other way: the person who updates ends up with the better view. Concede one point genuinely this month and see whether anything is actually lost.
Study something with another person
Start with a shared syllabus rather than a solo one: a course with classmates, a book read alongside somebody, a subject discussed weekly with a person who reads it differently. Then take one position you hold and ask them to argue against it properly. Ideas here need a second person to become real.
Convictions that have been through somebody
What accumulates is a set of beliefs that have survived contact with a genuine opponent, which is a completely different asset from beliefs that were never challenged. They are more flexible, better defended and much easier to hold under pressure. The difference is not in the content; it is in what they have been through.
Winning the argument instead of finishing it

Notice when your objective changes from understanding to prevailing. Ask one question after that point instead of making one more statement, and let the conversation carry on past your win.

The convictions you regard as your own arrived through teachers, books, arguments and people who happened to be there at the right moment. Naming the sources does not diminish a belief; it locates it. Write down who gave you your three most load-bearing ideas, and thank one of them if they are still reachable.
Teach with somebody rather than at people
Your professional authority runs on knowing and telling, which is efficient and closes the room. Try the collaborative format instead: co-teach, moderate, run the session as a conversation. It feels like giving away the position and it produces the standing you actually want, because people remember rooms they were in rather than talks they attended.
Travel with somebody and let them plan half
Your journeys are yours: your itinerary, your pace, your decisions, and company only when it is convenient. Take one trip planned jointly where half the days belong to somebody else's interests. It will be less efficient and you will see things you would never have chosen, which is the entire purpose of the exercise.
Understand the family view before you reject it
You know exactly where you differ from your family's beliefs and have never asked what led them there. Ask one relative to explain a conviction of theirs properly, and stay in it long enough to be able to state their case better than they did. Rejection after understanding is a different act entirely.
Get an outside opinion on the plan
Your approach to the body is self-directed: you research, decide and proceed, and no professional or partner has ever reviewed it. That works until it does not, and by then it has been running for years. Take one considered plan to somebody qualified and let them alter it. Second opinions are cheap and unusually effective here.
