It is not that you have failed to find it

Those are only available to people who stayed. It is a genuine trade and it is worth making knowingly rather than discovering the bill in the fourth decade.

What holds you is not a doctrine but a form: something done regularly, at fixed times, regardless of whether it feels meaningful that week. It supplies the containment that your convictions cannot. Choose one and commit to it for two years without evaluating it. The evaluating is what has ended every previous attempt.
The searching is the shape of your life, not a phase of it
You have been treating the search as a stage that will conclude, and it will not. Accepting that is not a defeat; it converts a permanent sense of being unfinished into a description of how you live. Once it is named, you can build around it — a portable practice, people who move with you — instead of waiting to settle.
Work that stops meaning something stops being possible
You cannot sustain a job you no longer believe in, however good the conditions, and this has probably cost you money more than once. It is a real constraint rather than a lack of discipline. Build a working life with meaning in the structure rather than relying on finding it in each role, so that a change of employer does not require a change of purpose.
You need a partner who is going somewhere too
Somebody with no direction of their own will feel like ballast to you within a few years, however much you love them. That is worth being honest about early. Ask what they are working towards and take the answer seriously, since what you actually need is a fellow traveller rather than a companion who is happy where they are.
You went further than anybody expected and did not come back
Distance from your family — geographic, intellectual, or in terms of how you live — is part of the arrangement, and it has probably been read as a rejection at least once. Correct the record with information rather than with argument: tell them what your life actually consists of, regularly and in detail. Facts travel where explanations do not.
The body is what the plan keeps leaving behind
Your physical maintenance is organised around wherever you currently are and whatever you are currently pursuing, so it restarts from zero with each change and never accumulates. Build a version that travels: something requiring no equipment, no membership and no location. The portable version is the only one that will survive your life.
