Neptune in Cancer in the 11th House (House of Community)

Cancer says how Neptune shows up; the 11th House says it happens in friends, community, future visions. Put the two together and you have the placement as it sits on a chart.

A friendship gets three months and then it is kinship

There is a point, usually early, where somebody stops being a friend and becomes family in your accounting: standing invitations, obligations, the assumption that you would drop everything. Neptune in Cancer in the 11th house does that automatically, and the other person is often unaware a threshold was crossed.

The longing for a harbour belongs to a whole run of birth dates and is nobody's personal property. What is personal is that it collected in the 11th house: your circle, and the years you keep imagining ahead of you.

A chosen family that would be complete

The picture you carry is a group of people who function as kin: reliable, permanent, obligated to each other, everybody looked after. It is a beautiful arrangement and it is not what most friendships are. Chosen families work only where the terms have been stated aloud, and yours have mostly been assumed by one party.

They did not know they had taken on obligations

Your friends receive a level of care that implies a reciprocal commitment they never agreed to, and they discover it at the moment they fall short of it. From their side something unfair has happened; from yours something has been broken. Say what you are hoping for, out loud, at the point you start hoping for it.

What holding the circle together costs across a year

Keeping a group intact takes a form of attention that never switches off: remembering everybody's situation, noticing who has gone quiet, arranging what would not otherwise be arranged. None of it looks like work and all of it draws down one account. Estimate the hours once, across a whole year. The number generally explains a tiredness you have been attributing to something else entirely.

Ask what people actually signed up for

Rather than inferring the shape of a friendship, ask: how close is this, what would you want from me, what can I expect. It is an unusual conversation and it prevents the specific kind of hurt that has recurred in your life. Chosen bonds have no default terms, which is why they need explicit ones.

Your friends are your family and some of them do not know

The people in your circle occupy the place relatives occupy for other people, and the expectations that come with that have never been declared. When somebody behaves like a friend rather than like family, it lands as a betrayal. Say what your circle means to you, plainly, and ask what it means to them. The answers will differ and that is workable once stated.

The future you picture has everybody still in it

When you imagine the years ahead, the same people are present: the group intact, everybody looked after, nobody having drifted. That vision drives a great deal of what you do and it will not survive contact with how lives actually move. Grieve the ones who leave rather than treating each departure as something that could have been prevented.

You take a job for the people and stay for them

Your working life is organised around the colleagues rather than the work, which makes you loyal, well-liked and vulnerable to staying somewhere that has stopped serving you. When the good people leave, the reason for staying goes with them and you often stay anyway. Reassess within three months of any significant departure.

Your partner is expected to join the whole circle

A relationship for you includes the group: the friends, the standing occasions, the collective. Somebody who wants a more private life will find that overwhelming and will not always say so early. Ask what they want, and be prepared for an answer that involves less of everybody. It is not a rejection of your people.

Collective money, and the person who ends up short

In group arrangements — the trip, the shared present, the thing everybody was contributing to — somebody covers the gap, and it is usually you, and the gap is never mentioned again afterwards. On any single occasion it is a small amount. Say the figure out loud once, in the group, without apologising for it. Most people had genuinely lost track and will settle immediately.
