You are known for the big claim
Mercury moves through Sagittarius and reports to your 10th house, so what you are professionally associated with is scale: the argument about where the field is heading, the position taken publicly before anybody else would, the account that made a complicated situation intelligible.
That gets you attention early and it invites a particular kind of scrutiny. A reputation built on forecasts is only as good as the record of them, and the record is the half you have not kept.
The career has changed direction more than once
Your working life has taken turns that made complete sense at the time and read as restlessness on paper. Both are accurate. Write the connecting account yourself, in one paragraph, and use it consistently — the through-line, what all of it was actually about. Nobody reading a list will construct one for you, and yours is more coherent than most.
The promise made in a good meeting
In the enthusiasm of a professional conversation you commit to more than the calendar supports: the collaboration, the deadline, the extra piece nobody asked you to take on. Every word was sincere and the shortfall reads as unreliability. Translate any yes into hours before it leaves your mouth. That single habit protects the reputation your bigger ideas travel on.
Authority sits badly on you and above you
You dislike being managed closely and you are ambivalent about managing others, which has quietly steered your career away from the structures where advancement happens. That is a real preference and it has a cost you should count. Choose deliberately: either accept the ceiling or take the hierarchy seriously for a period, rather than drifting into the first while telling yourself it was principle.
Delivery is what decides the ceiling
Your ideas are better than your record of finishing them, and everybody senior can see both. That gap is the entire question about your professional future. Land fewer things visibly rather than starting more, and put your name on the completed ones. Visionaries who ship become institutions; the ones who do not become interesting people who were around at the time.
You went somewhere they did not expect
Your working life probably looks foreign to the people you came from — different field, different country, different set of assumptions about what a job is for. Some of that distance registers at their end as a verdict on them. Explain the choice in terms of what you went toward rather than what you left, because the second version is what they will otherwise assume.
The work has to be about something
A well-paid position with no point you can articulate will hollow you out within about three years, regardless of every other condition being good. That is not ingratitude, it is a genuine requirement of this arrangement. Test any role against it before you accept: what is this actually for, and can I say the answer out loud without embarrassment.
You should be the one who says it publicly
Roles where the deliverable is persuasion at scale — teaching, publishing, advocacy, the public face of a position — use all of you and pay for it. Aim there rather than performing that function unofficially from a technical seat. The identical capability is worth several times more when it is the job description than when it is a thing you happen to be good at.
Your standing is an asset earning nothing
The public position you hold — the name, the platform, the people who would take your call — is a genuine asset and it currently produces no income directly. Convert some of it: the advisory arrangement, the paid appearance, the seat on something, the work that pays for who you are rather than for what you produced that week. It is the highest-return move available to you and it requires only that you ask for it.
