Your worth is calculated against other people
The 2nd house is where your Libra Mercury spends its day, and it does its work by comparison. You cannot easily say what something is worth in isolation; you find the answer by placing it beside what somebody else paid, earns, or has.
That gives you an accurate feel for a market and an unstable feel for yourself, since the reference point moves whenever the company does. Fix one benchmark deliberately or the valuation keeps sliding.
Beauty is a legitimate line in your budget
You will pay real money for a thing to be pleasant rather than merely adequate, and no argument about function has ever changed that. Stop treating it as a weakness to be managed. Name it as a category with a figure attached, the way somebody else names travel or food. Given a proper allocation it stops leaking out of every other line and starts producing what you actually wanted from it.
The discount you give to keep it comfortable
Asking for the full amount introduces an imbalance into a conversation, and imbalance is the one thing you instinctively remove. So you round down, waive the extra, absorb the awkward part. Each instance is small and the pattern is not. Say the number once, plainly, then stop talking — the silence after it is the price of the whole thing, and it lasts about four seconds.
Fair is doing more work here than it should
Your money decisions run through an idea of what would be reasonable to everyone involved, which is admirable and occasionally the wrong instrument. A market is not trying to be fair to you and cannot be persuaded to be. Keep fairness for the arrangements you make with people, where it belongs, and use plain self-interest for the ones you make with institutions.
Two of you deciding is the real system
Financial decisions settle for you in conversation rather than in solitude, and the arrangement works — you think better with someone opposite. What you must not do is let that become substitution, where the other person's certainty supplies the answer. Draft your own position before you consult anybody, in writing, then use the conversation to test it rather than to produce it.
The rate you quote and the rate you accept
You name a good number and then negotiate away from it, because holding a position against a pleasant person is genuinely uncomfortable for you. The fix is procedural rather than emotional: decide your floor in advance and treat it as already agreed with yourself. You are not deciding in the room, you are reporting a decision. That single reframe recovers a great deal of money over a career.
Enough by your own measure, not the neighbouring one
As long as worth is settled by comparison, your sense of having enough is set by whoever is nearby, and that means it can be taken from you by a change of company. The practice is to write down what a good life costs in your own terms, once, and defend that figure. It is the only version of this question that stays answered.
Nobody knows who paid for what
You keep money invisible between friends — the bill smoothed over, the difference absorbed, the balance never mentioned. It preserves the ease and it slowly stores up a private ledger nobody else can see. Say the small awkward thing at the time: split it, name it, move on. Friendships survive stated numbers far better than they survive quiet accounting.
Nobody at that table ever named a figure
Whatever you absorbed about money at home, one lesson was almost certainly that stating an amount is impolite. That is the source of most of your discounting and it was never a decision you made. Say a real number out loud to a relative once — what something cost, what you were paid — and notice that the ceiling you have been working under is somebody else's manners rather than your own judgement.
