Twelve books, all half read, all argued about
A shelf of things started, a dozen positions held loosely, and an argument going somewhere at all times. Mars in Gemini in the 9th house makes your relationship with the big questions restless and combative rather than devotional, so what you believe is permanently under review.
The sign is why you keep testing it and the house is why the subject matter is enormous. Meaning, truth, how one ought to live: you approach these the way other people approach a debate, which is exactly why your views are better examined than most and harder for you to stand still inside.
You change your mind, and it is a virtue
A good argument actually moves you, which is rare enough that people mistake it for having no convictions. What you have instead is a working position, held firmly until something better arrives. Say that explicitly to whoever accuses you of inconsistency. Updating on evidence is the whole method and it deserves to be named rather than defended.
The trip decided from a photograph
Your travel is light, frequent and often chosen for a small reason: a mentioned town, a cheap fare, somebody's story. You go to more places than most and stay in each for less time. That is a real way of seeing the world. Add one return visit somewhere you already went, because the second time is where a place actually starts.
Arguing a position you do not hold
You will take up a side for the exercise, run it convincingly, and abandon it when the conversation ends. This is genuinely useful thinking and it costs you credibility with people who cannot tell the difference. Flag it out loud at the start. Saying that you are testing an argument rather than making one keeps everybody in the room.
Teaching is where it consolidates
Explaining something to somebody else is the only process that makes your knowledge settle, because it forces the gaps into view. Everything you actually know well, you know because you had to say it to a beginner. Seek the teaching, the writing, the talk, and treat it as your learning method rather than as an output.
A direction is not the same as a destination
You have never wanted a single answer and you are not going to acquire one, which has been a source of quiet unease when compared with people who did. What you have instead is a direction of travel: consistently curious, consistently unwilling to accept the received version. Name that as the shape of your life rather than as its absence, and the comparison stops mattering.
The work is explaining one field to another
Your professional value sits between disciplines rather than inside one: taking the specialist's material to an audience that needs it, or connecting two groups who do not share a vocabulary. Nobody advertises for this by name. Describe yourself in those terms anyway, because the roles exist under a dozen different titles and none of them will find you first.
Argued with, then befriended
A striking number of the people close to you started as somebody you disagreed with about something that mattered. Opposition handled well is how you decide a person is worth knowing, and it filters out anybody who cannot hold a difference without taking offence. What it also filters out is people who are simply gentle. Keep one friend you have never once debated with, deliberately, as a check on the method.
The person you want to keep talking to at three
What lasts for you is a partner who is still interesting after the introductions, which is a higher bar than it sounds and a good one. The risk is treating a relationship as a subject: analysed, discussed, improved, discussed again. Some of it needs to be lived without commentary. Try leaving one difficulty undiscussed for a fortnight and see whether it was actually a difficulty.
The one who came back with different ideas
You went somewhere, literally or intellectually, and returned holding views the family did not hand you. The disagreements that follow are ritual by now and neither side is persuading anyone. Stop arguing the position and describe the experience instead. What convinced you was not an argument, and it will not transmit as one.
