That is not adjustable by discipline. Ask what a project is for before you take it, since the answer determines what you will actually be able to deliver.

Check back on the ones you launched, since your enthusiasm has moved on and other people are still inside them.

With your own children you give the real account rather than a softened one, and they arrive at adulthood with fewer illusions and noticeably more confidence than their friends. That is a genuine gift and it is unusual. Check the age before the honesty, since the same information delivered too early lands as something to be frightened of rather than something to be prepared for.
You will fund the adventure before the savings
Given a surplus, it goes towards something being done rather than something being held, and you have rarely regretted a single one of those decisions at the time. The pattern is consistent enough to plan around. Take the adventure money off the top and let the remainder be untouchable, since the priority will not change and the arithmetic can.
You fall for what somebody could become
Attraction here is partly to potential: the version of them that is possible, the life the two of you could build. It is generous and it can be a way of not seeing who is actually present. Ask what you like about them today, and be uneasy if the answer needs the future tense.
