The 10th House governs your public altitude: career as a life's arc, reputation, authority, the role strangers know you by. It crowns the chart literally — the highest room — and holds the question every life eventually answers in public: what did you build where everyone could see?
It opens at the Midheaven, the chart's noon point, and inherits that gate's direction: this is not the daily job (which grinds away in the 6th) but the vocation — the long climb those days add up to.
Tradition also seats authority here: bosses, institutions, and your own eventual turn as the authority. How you handle power, from either side of the desk, is 10th House curriculum.
The house of honors, plainly titled
Old astrology called this the house of honors and of kings — the room of rank, office and public standing, back when those words wore crowns. The modern title, House of Career, democratizes the same idea: everyone now has a public standing to build, tend and answer for.
A note the old books add and this site keeps at arm's length: some schools read a parent here — the ambitious or worldly one — as the 4th House's counterpart. Conventions differ and the debate is old; this site reads the room as your public life itself, and leaves family portraiture to the foundations downstairs.
No crowd on the summit path
An empty 10th House does not cap your career — untenanted rooms are the norm, and many prominent lives run on one. It means public standing is not your chart's obsession: the climb happens, styled by the sign on this house's gate, without planetary weather on the summit.

Reputation, its currency, compounds from kept promises and visible work — not applause chased directly. The room's quiet reassurance: summits differ per chart. Being the world's most reliable anything is an honors-house achievement, crowd or no crowd.
